Chicago White Sox

Working at the United Center and Guaranteed Rate Field has been a dream come true on so many levels for Sam! Of course, he loves the Bulls, Blackhawks, and White Sox, and has loved cheering for all three teams, not to mention the opportunity to be part of the excitement at an NCAA finals game and concerts.

But all this is really just the icing on the cake. What Angels for Higher has really provided has been absolutely amazing growth opportunities for Sam!

From his start at the United Center, his co-workers and managers did an outstanding job of providing training, and then stepped back and allowed him to work independently. As a customer service representative at the United Center, he learned to scan people’s tickets, and then managed a section of the auditorium—two jobs he had never done before. Not only was he able to develop new skills, he also had the opportunity to further develop his customer service and communication skills!

Probably the best thing about both of these jobs from Sam’s point of view? The people! His managers and co-workers have treated Sam with the utmost respect, stepping in only when need be, and building him up to step into these new roles with confidence and enthusiasm!

For all these reasons, we can’t thank Angels for Higher enough!”

This is what it looks like to be an employee at United Center and Guaranteed Rate Field.  I couldn’t be happier to witness this level of integrated, inclusive employment.  I had reservations about the noise, the crowd, the chaos, the size. But we work hard never to assume that our son can’t do something. Jack is now working, truly working, and doing the job, not just serving as a greeter or ambassador, but scanning tickets and manning a seating section at United Center and Guaranteed Rate Field for Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox and various concerts. You have to look hard to pick him out of the group of Guest Service Representatives. Thousands of guests have passed through his gate with patience and kindness, but most are completely oblivious and unaware that there is anything different about him.

This is inclusion. Not when someone special gets noted and feted for their specialness, but for their ability to just be. Be a coworker. Be a young person working a service job. To NOT be seen as different IS something special.”

Thank you Angels for Higher so much for this opportunity! Zach loves it, and his fellow employees love him! I have said since he was 10 years old, ‘The best job for him would be a Greeter, so this is once again my “God moment” as that prayer has been answered!’”
